Surgical Procedures Offered at Lifetime Veterinary Clinic

At Lifetime Veterinary Clinic, we have a full surgical suite and are able to perform a wide variety of surgical procedures, some of the most common ones being listed below. For very complicated or specialized surgeries we are able to bring in or refer our clients to board-certified veterinary surgeons.

  • Ovariohysterectomy (or “Spay”) – Spaying refers to the removal of a female animals’ uterus and ovaries to render the pet incapable of reproduction. The purpose of this procedure is to prevent overpopulation, eliminate heat cycles, reduce the risk of health problems like mammary cancer, and to eliminate uterine infections and uterine cancer.
  • Castration (or “Neuter”) – Neutering renders a male animal infertile through the removal of the testicles. As with spaying, it prevents overpopulation and eliminates health problems like testicular and prostate cancer. It also reduces aggressive behaviour and annoying sexual habits of pets.
  • Soft Tissue Surgery – Soft tissue surgery refers to procedures that are not associated with bone. A common form of soft tissue surgery that we perform at our clinic is the removal of tumors and lumps. We also perform abdominal surgery, suturing of lacerations, general eye and ear surgeries to name a few.
  • Orthopedic Surgery – This surgery refers to bone or ligament surgery that may be necessary in the event of ligament ruptures, leg fractures, disc disease, or hip dysplasia.

Prior to any anesthesia or surgery we would like to do a pre-anesthetic work-up. These start with a full physical examination and a blood panel suited for the age of your pet. Older patients and patients that are at a higher risk will have chest radiographs and an ECG (echocardiogram) done. These are done to rule out anesthetic risks – the more we know the more we can prepare for. If you have any questions or concerns about your pet under anesthetic please let our team know and we will answer any questions or concerns that you may have.
