“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” ― Hippocrates
It is common for most people to think that prescription diets are only used for pets that have been diagnosed with a medical problem. While there are diets suited for that, all pets can benefit from being prescribed a diet that is highly nutritious. The diets that we carry and recommend have been formulated to cover a wide range of nutritional needs, ranging from theraputic diets for pets with complex health issues, to wellness formulas that will meet the needs of dogs and cats in all life stages.
FAQ About Veterinary Diets:
Q: What are by-products? Why are they in my pet’s food?
A: A by-product is ANY ingredient that is produced or left over when some other product or ingredient is made. Broths and gelatin are examples of meat by-products in human food. By-products that are in pet foods that meet AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) guidelines come from clean animal parts, such as liver, kidney, and other organs. They are NOT beaks, hair, hooves, etc. By-products are also an excellent source of protein and amino acids.
Q: Should my pet food be grain-free?
A: Grains supply energy. The carbohydrates, proteins, and other nutrients that are provided by grains will add nutritional and sructural value to your pet’s food. Most cells in your pet’s body will use carbohydrates as a primary source of energy. Grains also provide fibre, that will help with gastrointestinal health and essential fatty acids that will contribute to a healthy skin and coat.
